The purpose of Adult Sunday School is to help men and women become mature Christian disciples through the study of God’s word and it’s application to their lives. We encourage you to visit one of the classes and take advantage of the great teaching and fellowship time.

Here was generated the faith and determination to launch a work of God. The years have produced many changes, but the witness of that early “congregation” is carried on today by the members and friends of First Presbyterian Church.

Today, we are poised on the threshold of significant growth. Membership involvement and programming have increased significantly over the last three years. We believe that God’s future for us holds more depth of commitment and breadth of caring. In Christ’s name we offer our hospitality.

Chancel Choir

The adult choir of First Church assists in the leading of worship every Sunday from September through June. They provide their message and ministry in song in many different styles of music.

Youth Choir

The Youth Choir, middle school and high school teens, provides music once a month during Sunday worship and combines with other choirs for special performances.

Bell Choir

Our Hallelujah Handbell Choir has been praising God for over 15 years with worship and celebration in music. They assist once a month in Sunday morning worship.

Praise Band

The Praise Band, through contemporary and gospel music, leads the congregation in singing “Praise to the LORD”.

Junior Choir & Cherub Choir

3rd – 5th grade + kindergarten – 2nd grade
What’s it all about? Singing up-beat songs about Jesus and His praises! Our kids take part in our Sunday worship services by singing monthly, and Christmas or Spring Musicals provide opportunities to act out dramas. They also join the other choirs for spectacular combined Choir Concerts.

Brass Ensemble

This group of proficient brass players make the newest music ensemble at First Church. We meet on Thursday evenings for rehearsal, and perform special music at church services and for the Christmas Conce

The ministry to our covenant children is an essential part of the ministry of First Presbyterian Church of Howell. We welcome children of all ages and encourages participation as developmentally appropriate.

Londa Wilkes (Ph: 517-546-0290 ext. 13 | email ) coordinates the Children and Youth Ministry Area and seeks to make every child’s time at church a positive and learning experience.A main goal of our Children Sunday School program is to come alongside and aid parents in the teaching and nurturing of their children.

Children Sunday School takes place every Sunday morning from 9-10am.Our children learn through Bible teaching and Scripture memory.

For Teens – Senior High

Our youth group meet for Sunday School weekly in two classes, one for middle school youth and the other for senior high school youth.

The youth also hold weekly meetings for fun, fellowship, and service on Sunday afternoons from 3-5 p.m.

Elisa Sutherland(Ph: 517-546-0290 | email) coordinates youth activities at the church, including family retreats, lock-ins, and fundraisers for summer mission trips.

As a Christ-centered Presbyterian Church we seek to joyfully share the good news of the sovereign love of God.

50% of our mission support is given to the Presbytery, Synod, and General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church (USA). The remaining support is offered to select local and trans-local projects such as Salvation Army, Livingston Community Habitat for Humanity, New Tribes’ Missions, Christian Salvage Mission, Youth Haven Ranch, Joy for Jesus Ministry, and the Detroit Rescue Mission.

Congregational Mission Trip

First Presbyterian Church of Howell had ten participants in this year’s mission trip to the Yucatan Peninsula of Mexico, which took place in December. They joined with twenty members from the Presbyterian Churches in Bay City, Holt, and Jackson.

The group spent one week working on a second floor addition to the Presbyterian Church in Felipe Carrillo Puerto. When completed, the addition will become the main sanctuary and the old sanctuary will become a Fellowship area.

This was the fifth year of our ongoing ministry in the Yucatan. Many of the members who have participated find the work so rewarding they returned for each year on this mission trip.

We Grow BROADER through MISSION!

Our mission is to develop Christian Fellowship with the Presbyterian Women of this congregation through a faith journey of commitment to local, regional and international service, encouraging and supporting all tasks undertaken by each committee and sharing in spiritual development through these activities and opportunities that bring glory to God. Our group is an easy way to become more familiar with the women of our church and help support the many things we do.

Many of our activities take just a couple hours of your time, and others take a longer commitment, depending on what you would like to do. Our major focus is missions and many times we collect items, collect money, have fundraisers, and make items that are sent to those in need. We are now concentrating more on local needs; in our church, our city and our county.

This past year, we added a little over $2,000 to the Samaritan Fund of the church, gave many baby items to the Pregnancy Helpline, and many stuffed animals to the Livingston County Ambulance Service. We are now looking at ways to become involved with Love, INC. If you have suggestions or ideas where we could help, please let us know. The Board meets the 2nd Monday of each month from September – June at 7:00 pm.

The mission of our worship is to provide an open, hospitable environment, wherein people attain a better understanding and a richer experience of God’s grace in Jesus Christ.

Worship is central to the life and ministry of our family of faith. Since First Church added a second worship service to it’s Sunday morning schedule in November, 1995, we have experienced a 22% increase in average Sunday worship attendance and a 50% increase in average Sunday worship attendance in the past seven years. In 1999 we saw a ten year dream come true as we were able to purchase a Grand Piano for use in worship. We are delighted to have been able to have an additional accompanist to share the duties and enhance our worship.
